  PERSONAL BACKGROUND

Violet had an exemplary start to her legal career by obtaining her B Proc degree cum laude in Private Llaw at the University of the North. Moving to Bloemfontein, she completed her LL B at the University of the Free State, whereafter she was appointed as an Appeal Court Researcher at the Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein.

She excelled to such a degree that she obtained an Internship at the Constitutional Court under the mentorship of Justice Mokgoro. It is here that Violet developed her professional interest in labour and constitutional law.

She started her professional career as a Candidate Attorney at Naudé's Attorneys in Bloemfontein. At Naudé's she qualified as a High Court practitioner before moving to the labour and industrial relations department at the firm.
She continued her studies and completed her LL M in Labour and Consitutional Law under the guidance of Prof Lood Pretorius, the Head of the Centre for Human Rights at the University of the Free State.

Violet soon established herself as a specialist labour practitioner, specializing in representation of clients at the CCMA and Labour Court and the provision of labour, industrial relations and human resource services to clients.
Her reputation preceded her and she was appointed in 1999 as a part-time commissioner at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (Free State) where she has established herself as a leading commissioner.
In 2000 she was appointed as a director in the Labour and Iindustrial Relations Department at Naudé's. She diversified her scope of work, providing further services such as advice on retrenchments and restructuring, disciplinary and forensic inquiries, employment equity and labour training to large organizations, tertiary education institutions, municipalities, local and provincial government.

In 2002 Violet spearheaded a move away from Naudé's and was one of the founding members of Phatshoane Henney Inc, a new Black Empowered law firm and founding member of the Phatshoane Henney Group of Associated Firms, a national association of firms throughout South Africa. She holds the position of Director of the Labour and Constitutional Department at Phatshoane Henney Inc.
At Phatshoane Henney Inc, Violet provides specialized labour and industrial relations services, including forensic disciplinary action, wherein she works with forensic auditing firms in the conducting of investigations, extrapolating the necessary charges to be proffered and compiling evidentiary briefs for purposes of future disciplinary action and/or criminal prosecution. She also frequently acts as prosecutor or presiding officer in disciplinary inquiries flowing from internal and forensic investigations conducted.

Violet further provides specialized labour and industrial relations advice and services to a wide variety of clients, including a strong contingent of municipalities, provincial government departments and corporate clients, such as the University of the Free State, the Central University of Technology, Bloemwater Water Board, the Mangaung Local Municipality, Motheo District Municipality, Dithlabeng Local Municipality, Tswelopele Municipality, Matchabeng Municipality and Moqhaka Municipality.

She also conducts and presides in labour conciliation, mediations and arbitrations and appears at various Bargaining Councils, CCMA, Labour Court and Labour Appeal Court on behalf of public and private sector clients. She is also an active part-time Commissioner at the Education Labour Relations Council (ELRC), South African Local Government Bargaining Council (SALGBC), Public Health & Welfare Sectoral Bargaining Council, Public Service Co-coordinating Bargaining Council (PSCBC) and the South African Clothing and Manufacturing Industry Bargaining Council.
